From Circuits to Signals and Back: Integrating Biophysical Forward Modelling and Simulation-Based Inference to Decode Brain Dynamics
The NEST Conference 2026 brought together the NEST Community to discuss Neural Simulation Technology, current NEST Simulator developments, and applications of spiking network simulation.
Talk summary: Pablo presented a framework linking cortical circuit simulations to macroscopic brain signals, combining biophysical forward modelling from LFP to EEG/MEG with simulation-based inference to estimate circuit parameters from real recordings.
The keynote highlighted proxy and kernel-based signal generation from spiking network outputs, amortized SBI trained on large-scale LIF simulations, and applications to neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative conditions through the open-source Python toolbox ncpi.
